Christmas in Germany

Christmas celebration took place on December 19, 2015 on the threshold of one of the most beloved European holidays on the basis of Language Training Resource Centre, IIE&LC within program framework TPU Regional Centre of the German Language and Culture. TPU, TSU and students of Tomsk pedagogical college, pupils of German Language Centre, Tomsk school pupils, German language teachers and tutors knew more about Christmas traditions.

Elisabeth Stahr, Master's degree student of TSU and ex-probationer of TPU Regional Centre of the German Language and Culture told the guests how to celebrate Christmas in German. Elisabeth told not only about well-known Christmas traditions but also shared her own family experience of Christmas celebration.

"The Germans place a Christmas tree differently. Our family has its own tradition. We decorate a Christmas tree on December 23. It is every year, only this day and this day is very special for me", said Elisabeth Stahr.

Guests attended master-classes in dough modeling and Christmas tree decorations(Frabelsterne) making, exchanged presents in the game framework "Schrottwichteln", took part in musical quiz "Weihnachtsquiz", sang traditional Christmas songs in German and tried Kinderpunsch, mulled wine for kids. In short, guests learned all about the German language and culture, and also helped to introduce something new to Russian New Year traditions and make January holidays more comfortable.
