TPU Student - One of the Best at International Mathematics Olympiad in Israel

A three-year student of Tomsk Polytechnic University from Vietnam Nguen Ngoc Quy has taken part in superfinal of the Open International Students Olympiad in Mathematics, that was held on 7-8 October at Ariel University, Israel. The polytechnic received the second grade diploma and became the only representative from Tomsk.

The superfinal brought together almost 100 students from Poland, Russia, Romania, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Israel. Russia was presented by 39 students from 21 universities.

Nguen Ngoc Quy studies at the TPU Institute for Natural Resources on Reservoir Development and Operation. He was invited to the superfinal after winning the Olympiad stages. In May he took the first place at the Olympiad stage in Kemerovo, then was medalist in Yoshkar-Ola.

“In superfinal we have got four hours and ten tasks, they required a logical approach in solving. I can say the tasks were of higher difficulty”, said the student.

It’s worth to add the Olympiad was held in individual and team competitions. In both cases winners are representatives of Russian universities.
