TPUs delegates warmly welcomed by Indonesian Universities

IIE&LC representatives paid a visit to Indonesia as part of the delegation of Russian higher education institutions with the purpose to participate in the international educational exhibition World Education Expo Indonesia" on October 2-12, 2014. The delegates work was aimed at promoting TPUs educational programs in Indonesia, and encouraging establishment and further development of partnership relations between TPU and Indonesian educational institutions. A variety of TPUs programs in English form, scholarships for international master and post-graduate students, Russian language courses at Summer and Winter Schools aroused a genuine interest among Indonesian pupils and students.

The number of exhibition visitors exceeded expectations, as noted by the participants. The flow of visitors interested in studying at TPU was unrelenting during a two-day work of the exhibition. The main issues potential applicants from Indonesia were concerned about were safety and security in Tomsk, as well as weather and living conditions, possibilities of academic exchanges, and educational programs costs.

While in Indonesia, the TPUs representatives developed their own program according to which they refused participation in the exhibitions in Surabaja and on the Bali Island. Instead, they held a number of presentations of TPU at the largest outstanding universities of the host country including Indonesia University, Padjadjaran University, Al-Azhar University, and Surya University. The advantages of studying in TPU were also discussed with the pupils of the best schools of Indonesia.

At the initiative of Indonesian part, Evgenia Sherina, acting head of the department of Russian as a Foreign Language, held a couple of public lectures Business Russian Culture: language & communication at the universities of Jakarta and Bandung. The target attendees of these lectures were young people studying Russian language and interested in Russian culture.

"On the one hand, Indonesians find great interest in Russia, but one the other hand, our country alarms them because they know little about our traditions, a code of conduct, especially in a formal setting. During my lectures I was talking about the ways to pursue negotiations in Russia, the importance of nonverbal communication and language peculiarities of business communication", said Evgenia Sherina.

In addition, the TPU was also presented at the Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCSC) in Jakarta, the largest city of Indonesia. The acting Head of RCSC, Vyacheslav Tuchinin, delegates from 9 Russian universities, and a great amount of pupils, students, graduates and staff members of Indonesian universities attended the event. That meeting confirmed once again the keen interest of Indonesians in Russian language and culture, as well as in the Russian Higher Education.

Additional information:

About 3000 foreign students are currently studying at TPU. Among them there are four Indonesian students majoring in Material Engineering, Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering.
