Summit of the Asian Network of Major Cities (ANMC21)

The 13th Plenary meeting of the Asian Network of Major Cities (ANMC21) was opened in the Assembly Hall of the International Cultural Centre of TPU on September 04, 2014. Sergey Zhvachkin, the Governor of Tomsk oblast in his welcoming speech thanked Heads of delegations, who had arrived at our city, for the decision to hold the Summit of ANMC21 namely in Tomsk.

Among the guests of our city there were the Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe, Seoul Deputy Mayor for Political Issues Jong Seok Im, Ulan-Bator Deputy Mayor for the Social Development Issues Ceyen Enhcengel, Minister of the Royal Thai Embassy in RF Nitaya Jessadachatr and other distinguished guests.

Thai delegation headed by the Minister of the Royal Thai Embassy in Russia Nitaya Jessadachatr paid a visit to our University. Thailand is interested in cooperation with the Tomsk Polytechnic University Nitaya Jessadachatr said. Your University is one of the best in your country and enters the list of top-15 leading Universities of Russia, and talent is a gateway to Asian countries.

The TPU also welcomed ten representatives of Hanoi administration. More than two hundred students from Vietnam study at our University, therefore it was very interesting for the delegates to commune with countrymen and even sing a song Katyusha.

Additionally, a delegation from Japan headed by the Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe paid a visit to our University. The honorary guest expressed a desire to adopt the best practices of TPU in training professional volunteers for the summer Olympics in Tokyo to be held in 2020. It should be noted that the Governor is very interested in cooperation with our University in the sphere of academic exchange of students, faculty and young scientists.

The exhibition of participating cities was arranged in the International Cultural Centre of TPU where the representatives of delegations demonstrated the peculiar features of their culture, held entertaining games and performed on the scene of the dance hall.

TPU was also among the exhibition participants. The University was represented by the Rector of TPU, Pyotr S. Chubik, who granted personalized passport of the University to the Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe, Director of the Institute of International Education and Language Communication, Vyacheslav K. Erokhin, managers and specialists of the Institute and Nguyen Ngoc Dan, a student from Vietnam, team leader of the hostel No. 19. The event did not leave anybody cold. All guests and visitors found themselves a particle of a large and friendly international community.

The Asian Network of Major Cities (ANMC21) is an International network throughout Asia which undertakes joint projects on common tasks for the prosperity and development of the Asian region. Current ongoing joint projects include crisis management, environmental countermeasures and industrial development for the Asian region. ANMC21 comprises 13 cities, such as Bangkok, Delhi, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala-Lumpur, metropolitan Manila, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, Ulan-Bator, Yangon and our lovely city of Tomsk (our city joined the largest metropolises on June 30, 2012).
