Mysterious and Merry Lunar New Year was held at TPU

On February 16, 2010 at the International Cultural Center of TPU International and Russian students celebrated the Year of the Tiger, which in different countries has different names: the day of White Moon in Buryatia and Mongolia, the day of spring in China, and Tết in Vietnam.

The show presenter Munkoeva Yulia (the student of TPU) told viewers about Buryat custom to greet dear guests with a bowl of milk and as a mark of respect presented the bowl to the Deputy Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Vladimir M. Zamyatin.

Students from Vietnam, Mongolia, China pleased the guests with movies about New Year traditions, lively dances, songs, potpourri, bright A cappella and symbolic New Year gifts. Eye-filling show of Kung Fu martial art together with a presentation of Chinese calligraphy was a bright example of strength and wisdom accord. The chairman of Tomsk Union of Chinese students in Russia Li Hongda on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Russia presented souvenirs to Rector prof. Petr S. Chubik, the Deputy Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Vladimir M. Zamyatin, director of IIE&LC Tatiana S. Petrovskaya.

Guests as well came to congratulate international students with the Year of Tiger: national dance club “Asol” (culture center Zonalnaya station village) (stage manager – student of TPU from Vietnam Le Si Hoang), the Confucius University of Tomsk State University, Tomsk regional organization “Multicultural Tomsk”, the Center of Career Planning.

Afterwards “National halls” of China, Vietnam, and Mongolia started working. In each hall there were represented New Year symbols and dishes of the countries. Those who wished received Chinese calligraphy parchment, participated in cheerful Vietnamese game and saw bright photo session of international students in national costumes.

The Lunar New Year is a wonderful event allowing students from Russia, China, Vietnam, Mongolia to celebrate the holiday in warm friendly atmosphere and gain vivid impression.
