The President of the Russian Federation Mr. Dmitry Medvedev paid a visit to Tomsk

On February, 11 2010 Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, the President, Mr. Andrei Fursenko, Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Alexei Kudrin, Finance Minister of the Russian Federation and representatives of first-rate companies arrived in Tomsk to hold a session of Russian Economics Modernization Committee in order to get acquainted with economic and scientific potential of Tomsk city, which according to Mr. Dmitry Medvedev might pretend to a name of innovative capital of Russia.

A number of events were held within the walls of Tomsk Polytechnic University, which obtained the status of the National Research University of Resource-Effective Technologies last year.

One of the events of Mr. President’s agenda was his meeting with students of Tomsk universities. The meeting was fruitful. Young people were interested in a various, global as well as personal, issues. One of a student of Tomsk Polytechnic University asked the president which character traits helped him to achieve the success in his life. “To achieve a success one should be persistent and sometimes even stubborn” – the president answered.

The representatives of student business-incubators asked about additional opportunities for attracting investors towards development of their business.

Truong Duc Trung, international student of TPU from Vietnam suggested allowing international students to participate in projects under economic contracts between Tomsk Polytechnic University and innovative companies while studying in Russia. Mr. Medvedev promised to think about possible changes that may be made to Migration Regulations concerning work for international specialists under the contracts.
