From Warm Africa to Wintry Siberia with the Aim to Reach an Agreement
On December 7-8, 2009 at the invitation of the Institute for International Education and Language Communication Mr. Alabi Ayodeji Desmond, the head of international recruiting company “Topworld Global Resources Ltd” visited Tomsk Polytechnic University. The aim of his visit was to get acquainted with studying and living conditions of international students of TPU so that in nearest future the recruiting company starts carrying out activities in the sphere of enrolment of prospective students from Nigeria and South African Republic.
The programme of a visit was diverse. Through the programme the guest met with Tatiana S. Petrovskaya, the director of the Institute for International Education and Language Communication and Alexander I. Chuchalin, Vice-Rrector for International Cooperation. Main issues of education of international students from Africa were discussed during the meeting.
During the 1st day of his staying Mr. Desmond visited the Institute for International Education and Language Communication of TPU. He elaborately studies the international education system, international student admission procedure, and support and guidance activity arrangement. Mr. Desmond noted high level of work organization on enrolment and training of international students.
Under the programme the guest visited the Institute of Geology and Oil & Gas Industries and the Institute of Electrical Engineering. The representatives of the Institutes heartily welcomed the guest and told him about their activities and expressed the wish to develop further cooperation.
The visit was ended by a tour of the TPU International Hostel during which Mr. Desmond met with international students of TPU. Our guest was delighted with saturated extra-curricular activities offered for our students, for whom plethora of clubs are opened. Mr. Desmond was interested in football to a greater extend as he is an avid football fan.
The visit resulted in signing a memorandum. Mr. Desmond promised to recruit 10 prospective applicants to Tomsk Polytechnic University in 2010 and expressed his hope for fruitful cooperation as well as a wish to visit Tomsk one more time.
