National Games Championship to be Held in TPU

In December, a national games championship will be held at Tomsk Polytechnic University. Students from Tomsk universities will compete in sports and board games of different nations. Teams are registered for the championship until 1 December.

The championship will be held in two rounds. In the first round, the student teams will compete in the national sports games. The competition will begin on 2 December, at 17:30 in the TPU Sports Building (4 Karpov st). Student will compete for the title of best in mas-wrestling, a Yakut national sport (pulling a bar), White Poplar, Green Poplar, an Uzbek game (tug of war) and national fighting.

The second round - national board games - will take place on 5 December at 18:00 at the TPU International Cultural Center (13c Usov st). Participants will compete in checkers, Tobit, a Khakas board game, Khabylyk and Khaamyska Yakut games, Shagayn Kharvaa Mongolian game and Okhlopok, a Russian folk game.

“The championship will be one of the highlights of the Days of National Cultures festival in TPU. The national games championship of a wide format is held in Tomsk for the first time. Previously, students of Tomsk Polytechnic University from various countries introduced Tomsk citizens with their traditional games. However, this year for the first time, we have decided to join the games of different nations in the overall championship,” says the staff member of the TPU Center of Social Work Maria Vorotilo.

A team should consist of eight members. The feature of the competition is each team will include representatives of different nationalities and ethnic groups, it is a requirement for participation. To register for the championship is available online until 1 December. Students of all Tomsk universities are welcome to participate.

Announcement of the competition results and awards ceremony will take place at a gala concert of the Days of National Cultures on 14 December at 18:00 at the TPU International Cultural Center.
